Cirque Evacuates Artists from Japan

According to Pat Donnelly of the Montreal Gazette, Cirque du Soleil is evacuating about 300 artists and staff members from its shows currently in Japan (ZED and Kooza). They are being sent to Macau after Tokyo Disneyland was temporarily shut down.

The Cirque’s show ZED is permanently based at Tokyo Disneyland. Kooza is a touring show that was visiting the Fuji Dome in Tokyo. Another permanent show is installed at the Venetian Hotel in Macau.

The ZED and Kooza teams “will benefit from the support of their Macau colleagues and will be able to pursue their training at the Macau training centre,” Cirque corporate PR manager Chantal Côté said in a statement Tuesday.

No official date for reening has been set.

The evacuations began Monday and are progressing according to the availability of commercial flights, Côté said.
