Cirque du Soleil Unveils – ZAIA
Macau, China - August 28, 2008 - ZAIA, the very first permanent Cirque du Soleil production to open in Asia, celebrates its world premiere on August 28, 2008 at the Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel in Macau to coincide with the 1st Anniversary of its host resort-hotel. -
Koozå: ‘Live it Up’ on CD and DVD!
Koozå, the story of an innocent and charming clown who strives to find his own place in the world, is a return to the origins of Cirque du Soleil. It combines two circus traditions – acrobatic performance and the art of clowning. Between strength and fragility, laughter and chills, and turmoil and harmony, Koozå is [...] -
Cirque du Soleil and KNIE, 1992
We've all seen it. Anyone who has scanned the 24-year history of Cirque du Soleil has come across this paragraph; a footnote in Cirque's vast history. Fascination. Knie. Nouvelle Expérience. Saltimbanco. When you read the passage it's hard to deny that 1992 was arguably one of Cirque du Soleil's most expansive, if not important, years in its early history. Truly, for the first time Cirque du Soleil was going global and I find it an interesting year because it includes some of Cirque du Soleil's most mysterious ventures: Fascination in Japan and a partnership with KNIE in Switzerland. Over the years fans have shed a lot of light upon Fascination, a combination of Le Cirque Réinventé and Nouvelle Expérience, but little has ever been said about the collaboration with Circus Knie. Until now. -
Remembering Varekai in Montreal
I stepped from my apartment at 4:30am the morning of April 24, 2002 to the watchful eye of a green-colored, mysteriously large moon. It hung eerily in the early morning sky like a sentinel in suspect, ready to cast doubt on the ambitious plans I had for the day's expedition, and the Grand Tour as a whole. I couldn't really say why, mind you, nevertheless I sensed a hint of malice on the full figure of The Man on the Moon's ever observant eyes: the Mare Imbrium and Mare Serenitatis. And I wondered what craziness he had in store for me on this exciting adventure. -
People are Amazing Creatures
A few weeks back, we at "Fascination!" made a couple of purchases through online auction site Ebay that piqued our collective interests. Both were CD-R/DVD-R promo CDs from the Australian tours of Quidam and Varekai; we became inquisitive about the contents of each - were they your basic show promo CD, were they comparable to the promo CDs launched in the United States, and/or did they harbor new, undiscovered gems? So we bought them! And here's what we discovered... -
Bienvenidos a Mexico – Quidam in Monterrey
In all my voyages since I’d been bitten by the travel bug in 2002, though I’ve visited north many times, I had yet to trek south of the border to Mexico, where I find myself now for the very first time. And why am I here? For Cirque du Soleil of course! I’m here to see Quidam, one of Cirque du Soleil’s signature shows with one of Mexico’s most fervent fans of the troupe: Rodolfo Elizondo! -
Secrets of the «O» Curtain
Few moments in theater have the power to suck you in as completely as the opening of Cirque du Soleil’s "O". From the moment the luscious red velvet curtain "whoosh’s" away one is immediately startled and transported into a wonderful watery world. And if you’re like us you might take a second to wonder, "How did they do that?" before the next visual treat commands your attention. -
Delirium Ranks Near The Top (Again), Sort Of (Again)
A year ago, we reported that Cirque du Soleil’s Delirium had made it into the Top 10 tours of 2006, as published in the Year-End Charts issue of Billboard Magazine. And we can say the same this year! Delirium came in at number six (again), beating out such popular acts as Aerosmith, Tim McGraw/Faith Hill [...] -
FLOW: The Thrilling MYSTERY of Koozå
In Mid-December, just in time for the Christmas gift season, Cirque du Soleil released three new exciting behind-the-scenes lookyloos to their video repertoire: The Mystery of Mystère: When Art and Science Merge, FLOW: A Tribute to the Artists of "O", and A Thrilling Ride Through Koozå. Each has their own visual style, storytelling method and degree of performance footage shown but they do share at least two things in common: each has colorful, animated menus (featuring characters from their respective shows) and new cardboard packaging that is 100% recyclable. -
Performance Space: La Nouba
The La Nouba performance space is a collaboration of four entities: Cirque du Soleil, Scèno Plus, Walt Disney Imagineering and the Rockwell Group. All four worked together to design and construct what would be Cirque du Soleil's first (and currently only, but that will change shortly with the construction of the Tokyo 2008 project) freestanding theater built exclusively for their needs. Armed with a budget between $20 and $30 Million (USD), Scèno Plus designed the approx. 75,000 square-foot (7,000 square-meter) drum-shaped theater that is a wonderful testament to both structure and beauty and a shining example of ingenuity and design. -
faire la nouba
Once upon a time… A door opened and two worlds collided. Dreams clashed with reality. The mundane mixed with the marvelous. It was no longer possible to tell where one world began and the other ended. This new place was called La Nouba. On December 23, 1998, just a few short weeks after the Las [...] -
A Penny for your Thoughts (a Survey)!
“Cirque du Soleil needs your input,” trumpeted the heading of an email my wife Lucy and I received back in 2006 from Survey@Cirquedusoleil.com. We had recently seen Delirium during its pass through Seattle, and the body of the message continued, “You have been selected to participate in an online survey that we are conducting over [...] -
Dralion turns 3000, a Quiz!
An anonymous "tipster" sent along an interesting little quiz that's circulating the inboxes at Cirque du Soleil's International Head Quarters in response to Dralion celebrating its 3000th performance on October 2nd in Osaka. The answers were sent, too, but how many of these questions can you get right before you read them? -

Guest Submission By: Rich Alford – Bothel, Washington (USA) —————————————————— 6057 – No, that’s not my ATM pin or password, or the code to my alarm system, place of business or car; it’s a number that became very special (dare I say magical) one fantastic night during CirqueCon Las [...]
