Lúzia at Montréal’s Nuit Blanche

On Saturday from 3-11 p.m., as part of Nuit Blanche, the Cirque du Soleil zone in the entrance of Complexe Desjardins offered an interactive Luzia exhibit. “Thanks to augmented reality and body-recognition technology, participants [were] transformed into one of the show’s symbolic animals and appear on screen within an interactive virtual world.”

Ugo Laffolay performed his hand-balancing act (with canes!) as part of Tohu’s Coups de Coeur series that also included Emi Vauthey’s aerial silk performance from Cirque Éloize and clay juggler Jimmy Gonzalez. Luzia, the Cirque’s 38th original show, melds the sound of ‘luz’ (Spanish for ‘light’) with ‘lluvia’ (Spanish for ‘rain’) and is inspired by Mexican culture. It has been written by Daniele Finzi Pasca and Julie Hamelin Finzi and directed by Finzi Pasca. Here are a few more photos from the show in the runup to its April debut.
