Many different materials are needed to make this costume, including moleskin and milliskin (a fine stretch fabric made from highly resistant cotton), silk, leather and gilt, not to mention elastic, snaps and zippers for easy dressing!

The Headpiece
This is a lycra-fitted hood that covers the performer’s head, concealing the hair and emulating an insect’s head. the hood is covered with red leather scales, except for the peak, which is also decorated with yellow pin tucks.

The Shell
Worn on the back, the shell is made of silk, leather and Crynille, a rigid, fi ne mesh fabric. the result gives the impression that this piece of the costume is hard. Kodel, a white foam, is also used to give the shell padding and volume.
